About
Carolina Koster’s work reflects her fascination with the expressiveness of the physical world around us. And with how she relates to time and place. Outside her studio, she seeks connection with where she is. She meets her surroundings in a dialogue and filters what is meaningful to her. Finds and experiences are taken to her studio.

Her starting point are (partly found) basic materials, such as charcoal, paper, cardboard, graphite, wood, plaster and stone. She works intuitively: she packs, applies layers of charcoal, photographs, folds and unfolds, searches for words, pours, cuts and tears, until a found method fits. The poetic power of our physical world becomes palpable from the interaction with the pure material. Her oeuvre is as tranquil as it is present. As subtle as it is monumental. She views each work as a still of ongoing time.

Her works appeal to a fundamental connection with our physical world. They invite us to reflect on our own physical being, to connect with ourselves and to experience something of the sublime of the tangible world.
