Density/ Scarcity
Back in the summer I was invited to participate in the  international THE LINE DRAWING PROJECT- a continuous, global collaborative project on Instagram to create a long transformative chain of drawings with other established artists. Each artist was invited to copy/repeat/take over one element of the previously posted drawing and then create something new. I was thrilled to be invited to participate in ‘The Line Drawing Project’, as it was the first collaborative process of this kind that I’ve been involved with and an opportunity to create new work and potential shift.  My approach was to work with the material digital image and I was delighted to respond to Meredith Starr and Dayna Leavitt’s work, ‘Are you there?… Sometimes I Spend Hours Looking’ . Replicating my studio processes in the digital space, I began selecting and assembling juxtapositions of edges, and boundaries from the organic and geometrization of the landscape and narrowing down to one ‘line’ to construct new form and space. The first Image produced in response is I’ve Got This followed by another, Drawing Up. The first focused on selection with a connection and grounding, and the second employs my fascination with line, replication, and its ability to construct space plays out a sense of connectedness and fragility, where lines become boundaries, or spaces to inhabit, evoking a dichotomy of emotion.  When creating drawings, digitally or on paper, I am focused on the potential for installation, where each line becomes material to be presented in scale relationship to the body, for the viewer to navigate and inhabit.
